Because Grit Is Our Superpower! is about my surgery at Children's Hospital Nebraska, I shared my book with their Child Life Department...and things took off from there! Madonna Rehabilitation Hospital in Omaha requested copies and then, I thought it would be fun to share my story with patients at hospitals across the Midwest too...so far, I shared my book with Children's Miracle Network Hospitals and St. Jude Children's Research Hospital and Clinics in 40 states, and in 2025, I'll reach all 50 states!
St. Jude Leadership Society
February 9th was the anniversary of the surgery to remove the tumor on my hip, and I am still so incredibly thankful to my doctors, nurses, physical therapists, teachers, friends and family who helped me recover, and learn to walk and dance again.
In honor of my care team, I am raising funds to support St. Jude Children's Research Hospital's lifesaving mission of finding cures for life-threatening diseases. On Saturday, February 17, I hosted a fundraising Valentine Dance Clinic at Pear Tree Performing Arts.
Kada's Promise
I am proud to be a Nebraska Ambassador for Kada's Promise. a program that shows how a simple teddy bear can bring comfort to abused children in hospital emergency rooms, social services, and similar settings. Therefore, for the Ultimate Day of Service on May 3, 2025, I decided to bring together my book, Kada's Promise, and Shriners Hospitals for Children, by donating 36 new teddy bears and copies of my book, as well as gift certificates for each of the 18 Build-a-Bear Buddy Rooms across the country. Omaha's Shriners support 325 local patients who never receive a bill.
Westside Community Schools Club 66
I am partnering with five elementary schools in Westside, District 66 and their Club 66 programs! In all, Westside has more than 3,000 Pre-K to 6th graders -- about 38% who are eligible for free and reduced lunch -- and I can't wait to share my story of grit and resilience with many of them!
Read for Resilience, University of Nebraska - Lincoln
With guidance from the Read for Resilience team at the University of Nebraska - Lincoln, I created “Super Readers'' – a program to provide grit and resilience themed books (including my own!) to students and Little Free Libraries.
